Summary: This webinar, recorded on June 4, 2025, provided an overview of Edmonton Public Schools’ efforts to manage maintenance renewal efforts through an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) approach.
During the COVID pandemic in 2020, Edmonton Public Schools upgraded 13 schools, including lighting, electrical, and exterior building upgrades. This early success laid the foundation for further projects, including updates to 23 more schools in 2021-22 and 26 schools in 2022-23. All projects were completed on schedule and on budget. Terri Gosine, Director of Integrated Infrastructure Services, outlines how the collaborative approach has resulted in a culture change within Edmonton Public Schools.
Key outcomes:
- The way the IPD contract was written incentivized collaboration, maximizing value for less money
- Integrated project delivery allowed contractors and designers to examine risks and budgets together before committing to a design
- Conducting multiple projects at once provided opportunities for bulk purchasing and project savings
The project team completed these projects through contract templates by the Canadian Construction Documents Committee. Templates are available online for building owners and managers who wish to replicate this model
