Alberta Context: These videos were recorded from NRCAN’s LEEP Window Technology Workshop sessions from March 2025. All content is relevant to Alberta.
Summary:
These recorded sessions are part of NRCAN’s Local Energy Efficiency Partnership (LEEP) workshop series, designed for engineers, architects, consultants, builders, renovators, energy advisors, HVAC professionals, electricians, and building officials. Hosted by ENBIX and Alberta Ecotrust Foundation, the workshop outlines the complex challenges of window selection, installation, and changing codes. Darrell Paul and Mark Rosen present on window technology and explain proposed Building Code updates, including the new CSA A440.4 standard for window installation.
Topics include design details and installation techniques for durability in wood-frame, low-rise, single-family homes, with or without exterior rigid insulation, and with flanged or box-frame installations.
Energy performance, airtightness, and ‘critical barriers’ were explored, along with the implications for carbon, resilience, and affordability, with a glance at new technology.
This training includes four parts focused on the selection and design of windows for application in Alberta. Watch the videos below:
