Material Carbon Emissions Estimator (MCE2) Training

September 28 @ 1:00 pm - September 29 @ 3:30 pm

$15.00

The Alberta Ecotrust Getting to Zero Research Project is working with the industry to reduce emissions by turning real-world data from low or zero-emissions buildings into insights that can be applied across Alberta.  As part of this research project, Alberta Ecotrust and NRCan are offering MCE2 training to those who require training in Material Carbon Emissions Estimators. Cooper Le of 4 Elements Integrated Design will deliver the workshop.

MCE2 is designed for Canada’s home building industry. It quantifies the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with specific low-rise, residential building designs by providing two important estimates:

  1. The GHG emissions associated with manufacturing required building materials
  2. The estimated GHG emissions from operating the home (calculated using results from a HOT2000 energy model)

Together, these results predict the overall GHG impact of a new home or renovation (its carbon use intensity, or CUI) and provide industry with insights into reduction opportunities.

At the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Describe the difference between operational carbon emissions and material carbon emissions for residential buildings and the relationship between the two.
  • Understand the similarities and differences between an Energy Advisor’s typical scope of work and MCE2 modelling
  • Complete a MCE2 modelling example
  • Discuss how to interpret results, limitations, and the assumptions in the calculations

MCE2 Training Dates:

  • September 28th 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM MST & September 29th 1:00 PM – 3:30 MST

* Spots are limited, and priority will be given to participants who currently work on projects in Alberta. Please note you will need to attend and complete both sessions on September 28 & 29 from 1:00-3:30 PM each day. You will receive a Zoom invitation link ahead of the first training day. Please ensure you choose the “Get Tickets” button from the next page once you’ve filled out your ticket registration and receive an email (check your spam folder) to ensure your registration has been captured.
