Physical demonstrations\, calculations\, worksheets\, role plays\, and case studies are used to demonstrate existing energy savings opportunities in lighting\, pumps\, fans\, building envelope components\, heating\, ventilation\, and air conditioning (HVAC)\, refrigeration\, building automation systems\, and more. \nBuilding operators as well as related maintenance and facility staff know their building better than anyone. Therefore\, they are uniquely positioned to discover and act on energy savings opportunities that will reduce building maintenance costs and overall operating costs. \nThis course includes a unique feature called an Energy Hunt that takes participants out of the classroom and into the  daily operations of a prominent downtown Calgary office building to examine them closely. The knowledge gained from this exercise is then applied in the classroom where participants learn how to calculate energy savings based on the opportunities identified during the Energy Hunt. \nNote: As an added value to CIET’s Energy Efficiency for Building Operators & Maintenance Staff course\, a fully functional FREE 60-day trial subscription to the RETScreen® Expert software (value of $125) is made available. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this course\, you will learn to: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDetermine how building operations impact energy consumption and how to identify energy waste.\nDetermine how to improve energy efficiency through building maintenance and operations.\nApply expertise on how to conduct simple energy savings calculations and explain savings to others.\nApply building control strategies used to reduce energy consumption and costs.\nOptimize HVAC systems.\nReduce energy consumption through equipment selections and replacements.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAgenda \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDay 1 \n\nOverview of Energy Management\nFinding the Savings\nSeven Steps to understanding energy use and finding savings\nOverview of the Energy Treasure Hunt\nExtended Q&A session\n\nDay 2 \n\nDetails of energy consuming systems\nBuilding walkthrough: Energy Hunt Activity\nCategorizing and prioritizing energy saving initiatives\nExecutive savings calculations and analysis\nExtended Q&A session\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis course is ideal for: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuilding/facility operators and supervisors\nBuilding/asset managers\nEnergy managers\nService providers in the commercial building industry\nBuilding maintenance staff\nTechnologists and specialists (lighting\, HVAC\, others)\nSustainability managers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease note: if registrations exceed maximum capacity\, preference will be given to BenchmarkYYC participants. \nCourse spaces are limited\, and by registering\, you are expected to attend. If you can’t make it\, please cancel at least 72 hours in advance so we can offer the spot to someone else.
