Industry Leaders Gather at the Launch of ENBIX

ENBIX Launch Event

Industry leaders from the building, construction and renovation industry, as well as government officials gathered at the NAIT Productivity & Innovation Centre on Dec. 7 to celebrate the launch of the Emissions-Neutral Buildings Information Exchange (ENBIX). ENBIX is a collaborative initiative led by Alberta Ecotrust that brings industry together to share knowledge, build capacity and support building and renovation practices across Alberta.

ENBIX aims to accelerate the transition to an emissions-neutral built environment for new and existing buildings. To discuss how the industry can work together to achieve this, a panel with key industry leaders from Chandos Construction, Mattamy Homes, NAIOP Edmonton, and Zu House took place during the event. The panel followed welcoming remarks from Honourable Randy Boissonnault, Federal Minister of Employment, Workforce Development & Official Languages, Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek and Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi.

“We know we can accomplish so much more when we work together, which is exactly what ENBIX will facilitate,” said Amarjeet Sohi, Mayor of Edmonton. “This hub will foster collaboration among industry, academia and government to adapt climate resilient building practices. It will also create a workforce that builds affordable emissions-neutral buildings and retrofits existing ones.”

ENBIX is based on the successful model of building “Exchanges” that aim to share knowledge around decarbonizing the built environment. However, ENBIX will focus on Alberta’s unique challenges, such as our extreme weather, regulatory environment, and grid emissions.

For ENBIX to be successful, collaboration and knowledge sharing is crucial. As Mattamy Homes panelist Collin Campbell put it, “At Mattamy, we have made a declaration that we will be leaders in environmentally sustainable communities and houses going forward, and we are not going to view it as a competitive advantage. Anything we learn along our journey, we want to share it with the industry.”

That type of collaboration and sharing is exactly what ENBIX aims for.

ENBIX’s services and offerings include:

  • Events calendar
  • Resources, such as case studies and reports
  • Industry Research Question Exchange
  • Training
  • Communities of Practice
  • and more…

Alberta Ecotrust recognizes that it’s only through working together and improving our collective knowledge that we’ll reduce our province’s emissions from buildings. We’re excited for the next phase of work with ENBIX. Visit the ENBIX website to learn more.
