SUMMARY:Technical Introduction to High-Performance Commercial Building Systems
DESCRIPTION:Note\, this course was previously planned to run September 22 – October 13\, 2026. Due to unforeseen circumstances\, it has been delayed by one week.  \nThis course provides a technical introduction to high-performance commercial building systems in Alberta’s cold\, heating-dominated climate. Starting with a baseline commercial building\, learners work through the choices that improve performance across the building’s envelope\, mechanical\, electrical\, and verification systems\, and learn to read a commercial building as a single\, integrated system rather than a set of separate parts. \nThis course is self-guided\, intended to be completed in approximately six hours between September 29 – October 20\, 2026. The instructor\, Azin Sanei\, is a building performance consultant and LEED Accredited Professional in Building Design and Construction. Connect with Azin and other course participants through optional office hours via video conferencing. \nAt this time this course is being offered free of charge due to funding provided by RBC Foundation. Upon completion of the course\, you will receive a recognition badge through Credly. \nBy the end of this course\, you will be able to: \n\nApply a whole building design lens to commercial design and construction projects in Alberta\nExplain the choices that move an envelope above baseline performance\, across insulation\, continuity at transitions\, and material selection\nExplain how mechanical system choices make a commercial building more energy efficient and reduce emissions\nIdentify the load-management choices that improve a building’s energy performance\nInterpret how a commercial building’s predicted performance is confirmed in delivery\n\nIt is recommended you complete SNRG 009 High-Performance Building Fundamentals as a prerequisite (offered September 8 – 22\, 2026).

SUMMARY:Technical Introduction to High-Performance Residential Building Systems
DESCRIPTION:High-performance homes don’t happen by accident. They are the result of systems working together – envelope\, mechanical\, electrical – designed with intention from the start. This course takes you inside those systems\, giving you the technical grounding to understand how high-performance residential buildings actually perform. Intended for builders\, designers\, and other construction professionals\, this course builds on industry experience to introduce the key systems and strategies behind high-performance residential construction. \nThis course is self-guided\, intended to be completed in approximately six hours between October 6-27\, 2026. The instructor\, Steve Norris\, has been working in the construction industry in Calgary since 2006\, with a special focus on sustainable construction. \nAt this time this course is being offered free of charge due to funding provided by Natural Resources Canada’s Codes Acceleration Fund. Upon completion of the course\, you will receive a recognition badge through Credly. \nBy the end of this course\, you will be able to: \n\nRecognize house-as-a-system concepts in residential design and construction\nExplain how each of the four building envelope control layers influences energy performance\nExplain how HVAC systems function as an integrated mechanical system in high-performance homes\nExplain the role of electrification in high-performance homes\nExplain the role of energy modeling in the design of high-performance homes\n\nIt is recommended you complete SNRG 009 High-Performance Building Fundamentals as a prerequisite (offered September 8 – 22\, 2026).

SUMMARY:Building Emissions Accounting for Materials (BEAM) Training
DESCRIPTION:BEAM (Building Emissions Accounting for Materials) is a tool developed by Builders for Climate Action to estimate and compare the embodied carbon of materials used in residential buildings. It supports practitioners in making lower-carbon material choices by helping them better understand the climate impacts of construction. \nLearn how to use BEAM directly from the team that built it. This live\, online course is delivered over three sessions and provides a practical introduction to embodied carbon\, why it’s important to measure\, and step-by-step guidance on using BEAM. \nBy the end of the course\, you’ll have the knowledge and confidence to integrate embodied carbon analysis into your work. \nThis training is offered as part of Alberta Ecotrust Foundation’s “Getting to Zero Research Program”. \nBEAM Training Dates: \n\nOctober 15\, 11:00 AM-12:30 PM MST & October 16\, 11:00 AM-12:30 PM MST\n\n*Spots are limited\, and priority will be given to participants who currently work on projects in Alberta. Please note you will need to attend both live sessions on October 15th & 16th. Please ensure you choose the “Get Tickets” button from the next page once you’ve filled out your ticket registration and receive an email (check spam folder) to ensure your registration has been captured.
